Wasted days and wasted nights

Forget the headlines, the war, Africa, and all the other woes in this world we live in. The  real battle, in practical terms, could be somewhere else. Many of us are wasting our days and nights on distractions from the critical issues at hand: our success in business and life.

Put on your oxygen mask

Don’t get me wrong, all of those things are very important and they deserve attention. The question is, how much of your attention do they deserve? If you don’t take care of your own situation first, you’re not likely to be much real help beyond the hoping and praying you’re already doing (and those are, as I believe, very important). As they say on the airlines, “Put your own oxygen mask on first, before trying to help others. If you don’t, you might pass out before you can help them or yourself.

Keeping your eye on the ball

People who land airplanes on the surface of aircraft carriers, follow “the ball” to enable them to land safely on the flight deck. Kids trying to catch or hit a baseball “keep their eye on the ball.” Getting distracted, however justified, often means we drop the ball in our own lives.

The battle is tough

This battle is tough. Maybe the toughest, because it is so persistent and subtle. You just gradually drift into getting little of consequence done and pretty soon it shows up in your career and your bank account. At least that’s what happens to me, on occasion.

Simple fix

  1. Have a dream (If it isn’t written down, it doesn’t count.)
  2. Visualize the goals as already being accomplished, and feel them in your heart.
  3. Don’t compare yourself with others. Yours is a unique and precious life.
  4. Celebrate when you achieve.
  5. Forgive yourself instantly when you miss the mark.
  6. Love yourself, without kidding yourself.

Succeeding in business and in personal life

Succeeding in business is about setting and achieving worthwhile goals. Self-confidence and self-esteem come when you know you can count on yourself to do what it takes to execute the plan and get the desired results. Each success makes the next so much easier to achieve.

Small steps

My recent knee injury showed me the power of small steps. At first, it was simply getting out of bed in the morning without too much searing pain. Next it was getting to the bathroom on my own. Today I am almost fully mobile, and I’ve returned the crutches to the rental shop. After all, “life is a cinch by the inch, and a trial by the mile,” as my wife likes to say. Each day is a victory of many, many, small steps.

Going to the Moon in the sixties

Walking on the Moon was just a series of small steps, too. (But a great leap for mankind, of course.)

Your life is important to this world

We are all counting on you to be you. It won’t be all that hard. You’ve had a lot of practice. We just need you to focus on an outcome that is worthwhile to you and yours. That outcome could be goofing off with your kids. The point is to choose and achieve, instead of drifting off in distraction.

A challenge for today

Skip the newspaper, the Internet, and the TV. Focus, instead, on you and your goals. What future do you want to bring about that breaks the pattern of your life so far? You can do many things if you make the decision and get started today.

Finally: “Caught in the thick of the thin”

I’m not sure who said that, but I liked it. Sometimes the “thin” is just what the doctor ordered. However, if your life has had too much thin, consider adding the “thick” of real goals that make your heart stir. Your life is happening today. We are all counting on your value to keep the world spinning.

All the best,

PS: Give the map below a good look. I am building a “New Biz Roadmap” home study program and weekly coaching service. The basic idea is that you get the economical “New Biz Roadmap” and you can take part in the weekly coaching sessions. You progress at your own pace, but the weekly group coaching sessions keep you on track, answer your questions, provide motivation, and give you the opportunity to share with others who may be very similar to you.

If you want to be notified when this home study program is available, you can get on the notification list here:
